Update, even longer over due.

10 Nov

So there has been no update on this blog for months now. I have been busy with work. And somewhat remote.

Okay a quick list of the changes.

The garlic – was planted and grew, then died. It dries out too easily in the pot and most likely under watered in my absence.

The ginger – survived and is still growing after a period of being dead or dormant.

The sweet potato – the slips that were planted died. I think from lack of regular water. The dog ate the sweet potato with sprouts planted whole.

The BSFL bins – have received all food waste since last photos posted. They are producing larvae and consuming food wastes well.

The chicken coop – is still standing and cleans up as well as ever with a quick spray of the hose.

Visible in the background of this photo is the twin BSFL compost bins. As soon as I touch a collection canister the chooks are in a frenzy.

Mower catcher/laying box, pellet feeder, grub feeder, waterer and door are all ready!

Re roofed!

The roof is back on. Feeders, waterer and bracket for the egg catcher are fitted. The coop now needs a door. The end frames combined with corrugated roofing make a stiff, strong structure.

A slightly smaller coop, but without a dirty ladder down the middle, that the girls did’t want to use.

Sorry girls. I’ll finish the coop reno tomorrow. Even when half is missing they like the coop. It’s not only because they have grown to like it by being “cooped up inside it (as is tradition), but also because its on legs and the roost is nice and high. They are birds and they like being out of harms way.
